Addresses Are More Than Just Text

As with legal descriptions, it is possible for the LDAMS to extract meaningful information from an address, rather than just treating it as a series of letters.When you want to find a property record with a particular address, and there is no exact match in the database, RDI. s Address


  Matching System takes that address, extracts the address number, direction (N,S,E or W), the main part of the street name, and the suffix (ST, BLVD, etc.), recognizing variations on frequently occurring words, such as STR instead of ST.It then compares an address number and street name with other addresses in the database, with an allowance for small differences so that the names do not have to be spelled identically. The result is a single unique or a small number of property records with an address that is the same as or similar to the address you are attempting to match.  
     
  How Well It Works

In RDI's tests, the Address Matching System itself located the correct property record approximately 70% of the time.When combined with the Legal Description Matching System, a matching property record can be uniquely located in approximately 88-93% of the cases.Table 3 shows some examples of addresses that were matched with the Address Matching program.

What It Can Do For You

The Legal Description and Address Matching System is not specific to the Harris County Tax Database or the Harris County Clerk Database. Although Figure 1 shows the Legal Description and Address Matching System connected to the Harris County Clerk and Appraisal Data, both programs can be adapted to almost any database or indexed file system containing legal descriptions and addresses and names; in fact they have. All that is required on your system is a C-language processor and a C-language interface to your database or indexed file system. The LDAMS code is all ANSI-C and fully portable across operating systems and computing platforms.
